Remember, it is about proportion. Mix full and
fitted shapes together. Try slim jeans with a big
shirt or a fitted tee with a full skirt. Hide what
you don't like, and accentuate what you do.
Showcase your best asset. Nice butt? Get a great
fitting jean. Love your legs? You know I am going to
tell you to buy a short skirt. Pretty face? Buy a
beautiful necklace or earrings to draw all the
attention upward. Oh, by the way, I once read that
when you are going to a dinner party, you should
always make sure your top half glows. Nice makeup,
hair and sparkly jewels, since that is what everyone
is going to see all night.
Fairly easy so far. Dark colours minimize; light or
shiny ones highlight.
Choose figure-flattering fabrics. Crisp cotton falls
away from the body, hiding flaws underneath. Jersey
clings and is unforgiving, but is great if you have
something you want to show off. A flat tummy? The
perfect breasts? Go for it.
A-lines are everyone’s best friend. They’re great on
any body type.
Use patterns wisely. Large prints really don't do
anything for anyone. If you are short, wear a
printed top. Need more curves? Try a solid top and a
printed skirt or horizontal stripes. Small patterns
are generally safe on everybody.
Know the power of monochromatic. Short? One solid
colour or tone makes everyone look and feel taller.
Too tall? Break up the colour. Long torso? Break the
colour at your waist. Short torso? Break the colour
below your hips. Stand in front of a full-length
mirror and look at the proportion of your clothes
when you have on one colour or a couple of colours.
Notice the change in proportion when the hem of your
top changes.
Never wear clothes that are too baggy. Big cuts of
fabric just make you look bigger. Remember the
muumuu?
Tailor your clothes to fit your body. Some of us
have long arms, some of us have short legs, some of
us have both, but it is okay. You cannot expect
every size 10 dress to fit every size 10 woman. The
cuts are so different between manufacturers that I
just keep on going up (it is never down) until I
find one that fits.
Last but certainly not least, love your body. Always
love the body you are living in right now.
Remember, a smile is the nicest
thing
you can wear every day. |
